A fast-growing Wall Street startup has made a ‘game-changer’ hire

| April 26, 2017 | 0 Comments

A fast-growing derivatives exchange has made a big hire.

trueEx, an interest rate swap execution platform, has hired former Deutsche Bank executive Chris Yoshida to run sales, marketing and strategy. He will join the executive team of Sunil Hirani, trueEx CEO, and COO Karen O’Connor.

trueEx is what’s called a dealer-to-client (D2C) swap execution facility (SEF). It focuses on execution and processing for interest rate swaps, which are derivatives that swap a fixed rate for a floating rate, or swap two floating rates.

The firm has 24 global dealers providing liquidity, with 80 investor clients. It is adding additional dealers in the US, Europe, Canada, Scandinavia and Australia, according to the firm, along with additional dealers. It’s also planning to add other derivatives to the platform in the near future, according to a statement.

“Chris is a game-changer, not only for trueEX but for the industry,” Hirani said. “As market structure pivots to smarter, cross-product solutions, he will help us quickly realize our vision for ‘one-stop shopping’ across derivatives, government debt, swaptions and other correlated products.”

The firm witnessed a huge spike in activity on its platform in March. According to the Futures Industry Association SEF tracker, trueEx saw $3.3 trillion in notional volume in March, ahead of incumbent D2C SEFs Bloomberg and Tradeweb. In February, in contrast, activity was much more muted.

Yoshida is a former global head of rates sales at Deutsche Bank, leaving the bank in early 2016. He had joined the German bank in May 2014 from Morgan Stanley, where he had been head of interest-rate distribution in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

He is also senior adviser at the Kairos Society, which recently hosted an elite meeting for young Silicon Valley types at the Rockefeller Estate

BARCLAYS: Rocket Internet desperately needs some IPOs in 2017

| April 26, 2017 | 0 Comments

German startup factory Rocket Internet desperately needs some of the startups in its portfolio to go public in 2017, according to analysts at Barclays.

The Berlin-headquartered firm, which is a public company itself, reported losses of €741 million (£630 million) for 2016 on Tuesday, partly due to a lack of significant exits.

Losses at the company, which invests in existing internet companies and builds some of its own, were almost four times higher than losses in 2015, when the company reported a loss of €197.8 million (£168 million).

“In our view, the key to the story is an IPO of one of the assets in 2017E,” several Barclays analysts wrote in a note to investors on Wednesday.

There are a couple of companies in the Rocket Internet portfolio that are tipped to exit this year. Food delivery startups HelloFresh and DeliveryHero “are possible stories this year” wrote the Barclays analysts, who went on to say: “We think both are credible opportunities”.

Delivery Hero said on Monday that it is considering a stock market listing after reporting a 79% increase in full-year sales to €297 million (£252 million).

The analysts stressed that HelloFresh needs to show growth in the number of subscribers in the first quarter of its financial year. “If a clear sequential subscriber acceleration can be shown then investors should become more positive,” they said. “We think this will happen. If there is no clear acceleration in a quarter where seasonal factors should be favourable, it is right to ask questions on whether the underlying growth of the business is slowing.”

Rocket went public in 2014 when it listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange. However, shares in the company have continued to slide as investors question the company’s strategy.

Kid falls off a tower after climbing up

| April 26, 2017 | 0 Comments

Allegedly a suicide but it looks like he slipped ….. there appears to be another person taking photo’s at the top of the tower, while the person who falls is a little lower at just to the left. Very possible the victim was wanting more “Likes” on social media ? Other reports suggest that it was a genuine suicide after he had an argument with his baby-momma who cheated on him, and that firemen had set up an airbag, but there seems to be a lack of activity supporting this.
